The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
Good morning Yoonlers!
I'm sure you have already been bombarded with emails about the new European GDPR law that has gone into enforcement on the 25th of May 2018. The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the most important change in data privacy regulation in 20 years.
Yoonla™ is committed to privacy, security, compliance and transparency. This approach includes supporting our customers’ compliance with EU data protection requirements, including those set out in the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”), which becomes enforceable on May 25, 2018.
What is GDPR?
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) is a regulation by which the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission intend to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union (EU)
To Whom Does GDPR Apply?
One way in which the personal data of an EU citizen could be collected when using Yoonla™ is when you build a database of contacts (via our affiliate program for example) with their information, and business dealings with them (i.e. a CRM system or autoresponder). Not all customers and or contacts use collect will be "data subjects", as data subjects are only individuals. Some of your customers may be businesses or government organizations, which the GDPR does not apply to.
Here at Yoonla™ we have already implemented changes starting 25th of May 2018, to clearly inform our website visitors about how we collect data, by displaying a banner on all of our landing pages including affiliate landing pages. (see screenshot below)
We advise all of our members to do their own due diligence in terms of how you use data you collect from people based in the EU. For example with collecting email data via autoresponder services, such as with GetResponse, and/or statistical data with third party tracking services such as ClickMagic, Google Analytics. Please refer to their website on the updates they have made.
==> We cannot provide legal advise but we strongly recommend that our members review the information available at the EU GDPR Portal. *
==> Getresponse has posted quite an informative blog post and GDPR PDF guide which you can find here.
* The above website is a resource to educate the public about the main elements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). It is NOT an official EU Commission website. For the official EU Commission website please see go here.
The Yoonla™ affiliate tracking services are also fully GDPR compliant as from the 25th of May 2018. You can read about Quality Unit's affiliate tracking GDPR compliance here.
